It’s Time for Action: Introducing Global Green Innovation Day
Sustainability and innovation have become buzzwords in every industry, yet the shift from conversation to concrete action remains frustratingly slow. The urgency of our global challenges—climate change, biodiversity loss, and plastic pollution—demands more than awareness; it demands collaboration, creativity, and decisive action.
This is why we are thrilled to introduce Global Green Action Day – Collaborate. Innovate. Act – Together for the Planet. –, a bold initiative that unites changemakers from across sectors to co-create solutions for a sustainable, future-proof planet.
Why Global Green Innovation Day?
Our drive
Despite progress in sustainability, only 10% of the climate technologies needed to achieve net-zero have been deployed. Biodiversity is declining at an alarming rate, and plastic pollution continues to permeate ecosystems worldwide, posing significant threats to our planet’s health and future. Businesses, governments, and civil society must step up, doing more and doing better to overcome these pressing challenges and create a sustainable future for all. That’s where our initiative, Why Global Green Innovation Day comes in.
Taking place Spring 2025, and with online and on-site events on June 5, 2025, during the United Nations’ World Environment Day, Global Green Action Day is not just an event—it’s a movement. Together, we’ll equip organisations and individuals with the tools, knowledge, and community they need to turn bold ideas into impactful action.

Mission and Vision
Our mission is clear: to empower participants to contribute meaningfully to a sustainable future while advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Ending plastic waste aligns with several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those addressing environmental sustainability, resource management, and health. The most relevant SDGs include:
Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being
Seeks to reduce the health risks associated with microplastics and toxic chemicals leaching into the environment.
Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
Supports innovation in materials, waste management systems, and sustainable industrial practices to minimise plastic waste.
Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
Encourages sustainable resource use, reducing waste generation, and promoting recycling and circular economy principles
Goal 13: Climate Action
Addresses the contribution of plastic production and waste management to greenhouse gas emissions, promoting strategies that reduce the climate impact of plastics.
Goal 14: Life Below Water
Directly focuses on reducing marine pollution, including plastics, to protect oceans and marine ecosystems.
Goal 15: Life on Land
Emphasises the need to prevent plastic pollution from damaging terrestrial ecosystems and biodiversity.
Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals
Highlights the importance of global collaboration among governments, businesses, NGOs, and individuals to effectively combat plastic pollution.
