🌿 Accelerator Session: Biomimicry – Nature-Inspired Solutions for Sustainable Innovation

Join us for this hands-on Accelerator Session of Global Green Action Day 2025, where we dive into the fascinating world of biomimicry—the practice of learning from nature’s time-tested patterns and strategies to solve human challenges in sustainable ways.

Biomimicry is more than just inspiration—it’s about designing conditions that enable life to thrive. In this session, participants will explore how nature can act as a mentor, model, and measure for creating resilient and regenerative solutions to today’s sustainability challenges.

This interactive workshop invites participants to bring a real-world challenge they’re working on. We will guide you so you can discover how to approach it through a biomimicry lens and begin applying nature’s wisdom to solve your challenge.

🎙 Speakers:

🔹 Fredrik Moberg – PhD in Systems Ecology, Senior Communications Advisor and Researcher at Stockholm Resilience Centre, and author of the book Den uppfinningsrika planeten – Biomimikry och naturens lösningar på vår tids utmaningar (2021 The Inventive Planet: Biomimicry and nature’s solutions to the challenges of our time) and the book Korallernas planet (2024). Co-director of Albaeco, co-founder of Nordic Biomimicry, and advisor on sustainable business strategies.

🔹 Dr. Anna Maria Orrù – Biomimicry researcher, educator, and design strategist. With a PhD in Wild Poethics, Anna Maria is affiliated with Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design and co-founder of Nordic Biomimicry. Her work brings together embodied design, sustainability, artistic research and poetic engagement with nature. For this purpose she has also started the Montepreti nature academy (montepreti.org) in Tuscany italy that offers biomimicry immersions and learning.

💡 What to Expect:

✅ A practical introduction to biomimicry as a tool for innovation

✅ How to explore sustainability through nature’s design principles

✅ Workshop-based learning—bring a challenge to explore with expert guidance

✅ A chance to reconnect with nature as a co-designer in your innovation process

For the Swedish speaking attendees, we recommend Fredrik’s book Den uppfinningsrika planeten – Biomimikry och naturens lösningar på vår tids utmaningar (2021).

For all, we recommend Anna Maria Orru’s participation for the Nordic Council of Ministers publication, ‘Biomimicry in the Nordic Countries’. https://norden.diva-portal.org/smash/record.jsf?pid=diva2%3A1221701&dswid=-4850
